Default Information on owning a Z06

Hi, what's up all Z06 owners.
My name is Eric and I plan on buying myself a Z06 within a year or two.
I'm only 14 right now (turning 15 on April 7th) so I don't really have a job but I've been saving my lunch money(25 per week) and money I get from doing some homework and reports for a friend (I get paid atleast 200 per week and yes its true).

I need some information on owning a Z06 like:

how much it will cost me to buy a used 2004 model (will the price go down or up lol).

The cost of taking care of a Z06.

The insurance cost for an 18 yrs old kid.

PS, Not only do I want to own this car because I love it better than any other car but I want it to be able to smoke those Cobras and 350Z with the huge wing and bodykit - they show off next to my high school right when I get out, it sickens me, they think they're the fastest thing out there

In a few years I'm guess most nice used Z06's will be in the $30,000 range and hold value like the ZR-1's. As for cost of owning... well they're great on gas if you keep your foot out of it (hard to do). Insurance can be super costly... if I were you I'd work extra hard to have no tickets or wrecks of any kind. Then when you get the Z have it in your parents name, on their policy as a recreational vehicle. I pay oly $63.00 per month for mine

admire your ambition.. yes 350z's are much slower and cobras can be a close run if they are modded.. but please take my advice and save $200 of that for road coarse driving w/ an instructor around a track.. it will be one of the best investments you ever make.

being your first sports car.. have respect for it and learn it well before you go out trying to prove anything to the pesky cobras n' 350's

I suspect that the least expensive part of your owning a Z will be the initial cost. Do yourself a favor and call an agent of your parent's insurance company. Tell the truth that you desire to smoke Cobras, etc. If you wait to tell them after your accident then you'll be unlikely to get insurance the rest of your life (only slightly kidding). If you are getting the car to race expect it to be costly. Once you have this information you might decide that the thrill of ownership and knowing you can smoke them is enough. In other words you will have time to prepare yourself mentally to avoid racing. Also you might read some of the threads from people who have a history of tickets & accidents.
Even without the insurance a Corvette can be more costly to maintain than to buy. Everything about them is expensive. One tire will cost more than people spend for four tires on a common car. Without a warranty you must be prepared for repair costs on a used car.
Consider this also. Right now the Z06 is the Big Dog where Corvettes are concerned. But in three years even the 2007 C6 is projected to outrun it. Cobras and a variety of other pretenders are also projected to get faster. If you're serious about having a 2004 Z06, and being a Big Dog, that means many mods. And that can get expensive.
I say these things not to discourage you. Study the history of the vettes and talk to those who own them. There is a pride in ownership that transcends most other vehicles. With a vette you drive the most recognizable car in this country and you have nothing to prove to anyone. But if you wish to get into racing, can find a mentor, and have the bread to support it then go for it. But the streets are no place for nonsense. My son lost control of a car on a turn and pretzled it. When I got a new one I took him out and hit the curve at the speed the cop said he was driving. My son was unable to speak for about a week, but I wanted him to see the difference between him and an experienced driver. Later there was an accident not far from where we lived and I took him to see it. There was a foot wide bloody spot in the middle of the road that used to be a person.
I drive a stock 2004 black on black Z06 and there's nothing on the streets to compare to it. In three years there will still be nothing out there to match it. When you can understand my thinking then get yourself the vette and you'll be able to tell everyone there's nothing out there to match it. And you'll be right, too.

Well, you don't want to hear this, but..you can't afford it based on your post. Even if you could...you shouldn't. You have a long life ahead of you. Consider, college and your future first. To spend money now on a vette is crazy. A Z06 is a mans toy, not basic transportation.
If you ask most on this board, they will tell you thier first cars were old rustbuckets that got them from A to B. It did however teach us an appreciation we have for our vettes now.

I agree with BBQ. Go to school, job, marriage? These are the important things in life (unless you're independently well off $$). The cars will come and go and when you least expect it, you'll have what you want/wish for.

It's nice to have goals and dreams because that's what keeps us going. Think about your future and be honest to yourself. You'll eventually get what you desire. Good luck.
