"Pull Key, Wait 10 Sec": Just got this message on the DIC this morning on my new '04 Z06 (has about 4,500 miles). Thinking it was a precursor to column lock, I parked it, and took the beater car to work instead rather than get stranded...
Was it the precursor to column lock, or could it have been something else? The column lock actuator worked fine, engaging & disengaging no problem. But, I did not move the car in gear, so it didn't have the opportunity to potentially lock up.
Unfreakinbelievable. If it's column lock, it happened also on my '99 C5--after which I installed the bypass kit and never worried about it again. The GM engineer who designed this ought to be strung up by the short hairs. Better yet, Dave hill should be left in a bad, bad neighborhood with a C5 that's just gone into column lock.
In any event, I'm not driving the car until I install the Thunder Racing CLB kit in the trunk this weekend.
if it locks up try putting in the key then put pressure on the wheel in a clockwise rotation and then turn the key. It unlocked my column when i had it lock up on me.

Precursor to column lock - possibly, but not necessarily. Other conditions can cause this warning message to appear also. For example, this message can occur when the ignition key is removed and reinserted before the steering column lock system fully locks or unlocks the steering column. You may want to read what your owner's manual has to say about this warning message along with the SERVICE COLUMN LOCK warning message. Good luck.

I would also make sure that the resistence chip on your key is clean because if the computer cannot read it you will also get that same message.....
I agree. I had the recall done and AFTERWARDS I started having problems with error messages. After 4-5 times I got the message, I switched to a newer key I had and have not seen the message since.
May be a coincidence but after doing the recall and another column related bulletin, it pissed me off that I started having problems then. I shoulda never touched it.
I sure wish GM would address this craziness once and get it done. HOWEVER, I had the k harness done on my 2000 A4... from advice on the forum, got under bolster and unplugged portion that goes to column and verified that column was unlocked with key out and vette in Park( again, an A4 ) Still got the "pull key". Cleaned chip, same deal. What works for me is putting the key in and out of the ignition 2 or 3 times before attempting to start car. Doing it this way eliminates the "pull key". why? I dunno , but it DOES work in my case....

The CLB will not work if you install it in the TRUNK.
I agree.
I can unlock mine by shaking the wheel from side to side when turning the key. It has working both times the thing locked. Still, I'm installing the CBL soon.
