Putting the mirror in in not hard at all. The thing that may makie it difficult is if you have to replace the the wiring harness to the mirror. It GM uses a singlw wiring harness for all mirrors then there is no problem but if they have a different wiring harness for the electromatic mirror then that coulod be the hard part.
One way to check is to unplug your existing mirror and plug in the new one and turn on the auto dimming feature and if it works then you have no problems.
I have some instructions in MS Word format that I could email to you. I have never used them but I tend to collect these "tech tips and tidbits" as they come up in case I ever need them.
Yes, you need to swap out the harness for one you can order from Fichtner. I believe it goes for ~$45. The harness runs from the mirror to the passenger A-pillar and then around the glovebox. The standard mirror is a 4-wire while the DDO is a 7-wire. Here are the schematic and the pinouts.
Once again you have come through. Do wish I had your knowledge regarding the C5.
I'll be picking up that harness and I appreciate the schematics. they will come in handy I'm sure.
He got an auto-dimming electrochromic inside rear view mirror as opposed to the manual-flip standard one. The hookup to it is different.
Tks Patches,
Just glad it's not something else I have to do...
When I tint the windows, will mine get really dark looking out the back. ( I have auto dimming) It already looks like I have tinted windows at night???
The electrochromic works very well, IMO. I had something very similar, but cruder, on my '86 TA. I never had tinting with that one or on my C5 now so I can't say how it'll react to it but I imagine it'll still work fine although it'll probably not react as often due to the tint blocking out some of the approaching headlight glare.

I made this mod on my '98, following the instructions from the C5Forum. I bought the harness and the mirror from Fichtner
I have 20% tint on the back window of my convertible and the dimming fuction works just fine. I also have an electrochromatic mirror on my DD (98 Blazer LT) and it came from the factory with a dark limo type tint on the rear glass. Again, the auto dimming function works just fine.
It's a worthwhile mod and I'm glad I did it. I hope you know how to solder!!
