Pretty easy to remove. I used the fishing line method, others say a heat gun works best. (I didn't use a heat gun). Just saw through the tape with some strong line (gloves will save your hands). Once you get them started you MAY be able to gently pull with a steady pressure to get the rest off, if not keep sawing. Hardest part is getting the glue residue off. I used 3M adhesive remover.

If you don't have a heat gun, a hair dryer will do.
Flames or no flames, the sleek swoopy swirl of the vent shape is, to MY eye, totally destroyed by the BSM insert. Buy this guy prize for wanting to remove the BSM!!!! Glad mine came without them.
Saving grace.....even with the BSM, the C5 is a better looking car than the C6.
RE: Flames.....do you like your flames outlined in contrasting pinstripe, or just sharp edged? I don't think flames look as good on a C5 as say a '32 coupe well rodded. I also vote for no flames...OK ?????
I want to remove the body side molding from my vert. Is there a good way to remove it at home or should I take it to a body shop?
I took them off my 99 with fishing line and a hair dryer.....You heat up the molding a few inches at a time then peel it back slowly..Put the fishing line behind it and saw through the glue(have a glove on your hand) pulling the molding away from the car slowly. I moved pretty slow so it took me a while...Once they were off I cleaned the glue residue off with WD40...Then washed and Zainoed the car and she was beautiful again!! Good luck!!
