I don't get this... what's the difference and how do I tell what I have? I think I saw a Z06 today and he waved at me. You can tell the Z06s by the black rear wheel brake duct cutouts can't you?
You can tell by that and they have screens on the front, Red brake capilers, lowered, they are also FRC (fixed Roof Coupes), and they have a silver badge on the left and right fender that says Z06. I cant think of any others ways you can tell the difference.

From your wheels I would say you do not have a Z06
Hey neighbor!!! Haven't seen you here b4. I live nearby... just south of New Smyrna speedway. Welcome to "THE" forum. I guess all the above answered your questions. Hope to see ya 'round!

If you have a clutch and six forward gears, you have the MN6. Otherwise, you have the automatic. The Z06 does not have the hatchback style rear window, has a fixed roof (no targa top) and has the side brake ducts (although many other C5's now have the side brake ducts).

The Z06 only comes with a manual 6 speed tranny. There have been some guys (with way too much money to spend) who have had their Z06's converted to an auto tranny, but this is done after the purchase and is not an option from the dealer.
The other way to tell a Z06 that has not been mentioned is that it is the one passing you very fast, but this can happen so quickly that it may not always be noticed! (Flame retardant devices now being quickly put on)
Subdriver is the MN6 in the FRC any different than a C5 MN6?
To the best of my knowledge, they are the same.
Most of the non-Z06s that I race against are FRC that have been upgraded with a Z06 motor. These cars have had the MN6 in them. Although the Z06 MN12 will give better straight line acceleration, the tracks don't always make this so straight forward. For example, there are many turns where in my car 2nd is to short and 3rd too tall and I end up way low in the rpm band in 3rd. The MN6 cars can use 2nd and be in the proper rpm band when exiting the corner. Buys them an extra two shifts though for that corner though...

Hey too you neighbor. I've only been around here for a couple of months. I'm a new C5 owner of about 3 months... 98 Torch Red Coup with 20K miles. Found this forum soon after buying the car and found this place to be a wealth of information from great people!
I was up cruising around Daytona (International Speedway Blvd) today. I saw a couple of vettes your color, don't know if it was you. I'm looking forward to meeting up with Stu and friends and do a cruise with them. I hear they have a lot of people show up. Some day we'll have to drive up to the Speedway and race the go-carts at the facility across the road. I stopped by there today to check it out and they have Top Fuel type dragsters that do 0 - 80 in 3 secs... looked pretty cool. Also had a couple of road tracks and a slick track. I'm sure it would be a lot of fun with enough people but nothing like racing the Vette.

not an easy question due to the Mods of the owners, I was at A&A Corvette a few weeks ago (GREAT PLACE!! THANKS Andy) and there was a customers Z06 Convertable!!!! The owner paid something like 13k to have his Z06 turned into a vert. Although having a C5 vert myself, I understand (sorta)

Here's another way -
In 1999 Chevrolet introduced the third C5 bodystyle, a fixed roof coupe. It does not have a back lift glass - rather it has an actual trunk much like a convertible. The Fixed roof coupe was made one more year for 2000. The original intent was to make a slightly lesser content C5, and some of the original options were not available.
In 2001 - Chevrolet introduced the Z06. Historically, RPO Z06 was first available in 1963, and included a 36 gallon gas tank, and radio/heater delete. It was the "high performance" option. In '01, the LS6 engine was introduced - 385hp/385lb ft. In 2002 - the output of the LS6 was increased to 405hp/400 lb. ft. - where it remained until '04.
Here's a web page that should give you some more information....
