Considering all the problems we've had with the C5 column lock occasionally refusing to unlock itself, consider this: The C6 has an electronic door release, both inside and out. Why all the electro-gadgets?
Yes, I've edited and deleted most of the ridiculous first post... :o

I can see this On-Star scenario - "Hello On-Star here, what's the problem?" Frustrated driver - "Well, when I shut off my engine and attempted to leave the car, my electronic door locks wouldn't disengage, and when I push the button to open the door, nothing happens." On-Star - "Have you tried violently pound on the door in an effort to disengage the electronic door latch? Sometimes that works. If that fails, I'm afraid you'll have to climb out the window. What's that? You say the window switches are inoperative too?"
I actually spoke with my local dealer not long after the c6 came out and they had 2-3 cars that managed to get the keys locked INSIDE the car even tho the system is not supposed to allow this to happen.
They have a wire beside the seat for manual release.
I don't know why GM bothered with yet another electronic gadget for the vette. I guess this car is their techno-leader? Wouldn't it be lighter and cheaper without all the electronic garbage? The electronic door release and pushbutton start seem rather pointless.
Guess I didn't really make that point in my first post. I blame the margaritas last night.

I think they should have gone with regular door handles (and key ignition) and put that money toward real aluminum dashboard trim instead. Kinda like the $25k mustang has.

Exactly! It's amazing what a little aluminum/stainless can do to enliven an interior and add an aura of quality. The new Mustang is way ahead in that regard - even when compared to the C6 and it's real simulated plastic aluminum on the center console.
Speaking of Mustang, has anyone noticed Ford's new commercials for the pony car that state - "The legend lives."? I thought that claim was Corvette territory?! I think Ford's spoiling for a fight...
