Dealer haggling...advice?
And here's another complaint![/B] I looked up my RAV's value in KBB and NADA...there is as much as a $3000 difference in what these two sites say the car is worth!
Can anyone tell me which guide dealerships or the buying public most closely follow?I don't mean to sound rude but they will use which ever one is lower. They have access to the same info that you do. So when one price trends higher they will use the other book. I have seen both the NADA Book and KKB book in a dealers desk. I called him on it because I knew that Kelly was higher and if he wanted to make a sale to use the higher book value. He didn't (said he couldn't, I said I couldn't buy his car)
1st, Bring a bunch of papers full of Internet information from KBB. Some other adds from other dealerships ect... The one I worked for hated people who brought in a stack of 3 to 30 papers indicating how much they should pay for their new car, how much their trade in is worth ect...
2. Play dealer againts dealer.. The buisness is very cut throat, a dealer will try to undercut the other one in price.
3. Don't tell them your trading in your RAV4 till after you have negotiated the price of the vette.
4. Be prepared to spend a good 4-6 hours at the dealer trying to negotiate. The longer your there, the more anxious the dealer is in trying to sell u the car. Don't be afraid to get up and start walking out the door.
5. IMO your best bet is to sell the RAV4 on auto trader or ebay, and buy the vette from a board member, or off of the net. I've been to several dealers looking and pricing vettes, all are way over priced compared to what you would find on here.
