Looking for a list of the best first mods to a 97-99 Vette. Please include prices, and where to get it, and potential power gains. I have been stuck in the Mustang world since I started driving, so I need LOTS of help!!!

My recommendations:

Blackwing or Halltech Stinger air intake From $200 to $300, depending on if you find them on sale. HP: maybe 5-10.

Cat Back exhaust - many to choose from from mild to loud in sound. Price: $600 to over $1K depending on brand. HP: maybe 10-15 (perhaps optimistic).

Wheels - also many to chose from prices from about $800 to well over $4K

 

Valentine-1 Radar/Laser Locator - $400. You WILL need it!!

 

Blackwing and Corsa Exhaust together about $1400. You should see about 15HP at the rear wheels.

There's a group purchase going on right now for the Halltech Stinger. Price is expected to be $199.99. Great price. That would be a good place to start.

 

get a CAI of your choice. For a cheap exhaust get the Borla XR-1 or Borla straight pipes, or if you want to be loud get the SLP Bullets.

Hang around here in C5 General and also C5 Tech and you will see a lot of possibilities. Good luck with the mods.

 

If you have/get a 6 speed and install a good aftermarket shifter like a Hurst or B&M, you'll enjoy it every time you shift. My Hurst was the best mod I ever made on my Fbody. Same for the Vette.

 

You must lower the car right away also. Adds like 7 hp I recall.
