Default Sound Insulation Thread!!!HELP!

Looking for a link or thread that details the Frost King or Dynomat installation. I tried searching and couldnt find one with detailed steps from start to finish.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Also how easy did the carpet go back down????????????

The best one is Mike Mercury's Tech Tip located at http://mikemercury.home.att.net/sound.htm

It is complete with pictures.

Within it is a link to Evil Twin's tutorial on insulating the rear wheel wells, also with pictures.

I won't post a link since you already have Mike Mercury/Evil-Twin's links but as for how easy did the carpet go back down...it wasn't the worst job I've ever had but it can be frustrating. The extra thickness of the insullation makes things a bit tough. Use only single layers of insullation, particularly around fasteners.

I did my entire car. The carpet was easy, you just have to wiggle it until it fits as before.

Jack, did you ever do the front wheel wells? I did one Saturday, but I don't see much that can be done. You have to remove a cover plate type thing just behind the wheel, but there's very little area that can be insulated without everything getting wet. It's all pretty much open to the outside. Also, there are lots of 'things' there that probably don't need covering up. I put some in the space, but I may wind up taking it out if it gets saturated.

Did you ever do the cabin? I haven't yet.

Both the FK and Reflectix are thin - laying the carpeting back down over top is manageable.

Does the Reflectix stop noise too, and does it work as well as the Frost King? Also is the backing self adhesive, or do you have to either spray glue or tape it? Thanks!

There is no adhesive on Reflectix, so if you want it to stick, you'd either have to tape or spray, or use some other method. I haven't tried, but I would think it would stay in place on horizontal surfaces underneath the carpet without any at all.

Frost King is meant to insulate for sound (heating system ductwork); Reflectix is meant for heat (attics, walls, and the like). I have heard, and find reasonable, that Reflectix is somewhat less efficient at sound insulation than Frost King.
