Well, I was as close as anyone could come to doing it... I have had my 97 Coupe for about 6 or so months now and I went down to San Diego to visit for the holidays and stopped by about 6 dealers, trying to get my first glimps at a C6... low and behold.. NOBODY HAD ONE!!!... So I found myself looking at a black '04 Z06... and I got to thinking.... hmmmmmm... thats an awefully nice looking automobile... The only problem? My 97 sitting 10 feet away from me... So I asked the guy how much he would give me for a trade (knowing what he would return with would be comical)... And yes it was... he offered $13k for my 97 coupe with 35k miles on it... SO.. no Z06 for me today... but really close... I was about to try and talk him into giving me 20k for my trade in... but I don't think I would have gotten very far, but they could turn around and sell it for 25k and also make a $50k sale to me at the same time... but I left with the dream.. and a new found respect for the z06... first time I got to drive one... PURRRRRRRDY!!!!!
C'mon, you don't want to give up your '97, the first of the C5's! Hoped you laughed at the offer, but I have to agree the Z06 is sweet and tempting.
I didn't laugh at it, because I fully expected it... I actually expected 14k.. so the 13k he offered was a bit low.. I know dealers.. they are sneaky and think they can pull one over one me... He said "we can get a car like yours at auction for 13k, so thats what we will pay you for it".... but I wanted to feel like saying back.. If you offer me $20k for it, you sold yourself a $50k car and will still be able to make plenty off my car... 35k miles on an imaculate 97 coupe... will sell REALLY quick... I just want to get my hands on the last affordable Z06 in history... and the last of a good body style before all there is left is the sell out Viper/Mustang goofy lookin C6's....

Too bad you don't have a buyer for your '97 lined up - you'd get much more out of it. I agree the '04 Z06 would be a very nice car to own, but like you, I won't just give my car away to a dealership so they can make a ton of money off it.

I would love to keep the 97, but the trouble is, it will start giving me problems very soon... 32k miles of the 35k are not mine, so I don't know how she was driven or what condition she is in... I would love to own the last ever Z06 model and C5 model, at the same time, getting a brand new vette that I know exactly where its been and how its been driven... not to mention a warranty... all of which I don't get from my car... dont get me wrong.. I LOVE MY CAR... that is the only reason I am considering a Z06.. which would be about $350 more a month... but I love my car so much I am willing ot do sacrafice that money because these things are the greatest vehicles in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buying any C5 is a major upgrade.....anything else (stock) is diminishing returns, the latest "fix".....look at the ZO6 as you might six months from now and realize your 97 does 97% of the ZO6 and at a fraction of the price...........KEEP IT
