Works great unless you have the car financed. My lender requires the liability and collision coverage regardless of whether I drive it or not.
My bank did not have a problem with it. I just had to send them a letter that I would restore the coverage before I put it back on the road. But I'm in the frozen north . The real deal is this, if you reduce coverage they won't know, the insurance company only notifies the bank if you cancel completely. Since your in MO I'd probably keep the ins. on year around since you folks have some nice weather now and then, right? Jeff
Unfortunately in PA we can't do that. We're required to carry "financial responsiblity" That is defined as "teh ability to respond in damages for liabliity on account of accidents arising out of the maintenance or use of a motor vehicle in teh amount af $15,000 because of injury to one person in any one accident, in teh amount of $30,000 because of injury to two or more persons in any one accident and in the amount of $5,000 because of damage to property of others in any one accident."
unfortunately, for PA residents, the only part of your insurance that pays that is either liability or collision. I'd love to only carry Comprehensive. That would be sweet!

I don't claim to know PA Auto Laws. But if your car is in storage, it can't be involved in a collision. As for liability, the only way that could land on your lap is if the car blew up or started a fire on it's own during storage. If it's got a car cover on it and will for the next few months, there's no reason to pay for coverage for things that aren't going to happen.
Here in NY if you cancel your insurance you must surrender your plates to DMV and then in the spring go back to DMV and reapply for the plates and new registration. That alone is just too much hassle in itself.
Plus I have my coverage with Geico and also my mechanical break down policy, this is the same as the GMAC coverage however it only costs me about $30 per year for the same coverage (full engine and drive train & anything mechanical). The one caveat, coverage must be from day one of new car and must remain covered, ie: no lapse in coverage.
Plus if a really nice day hits, clear roads, lots of sun I bought this car to drive it not to sit, and sit.

I live in PA and pay Comprehensive only on my C5 from 12/1 to 3/1. There's no reason why I need Liability or Collision on a car that is garage kept for those 3 months.
Someones pulling your leg if they are telling you that you can not do that.
I know state farm has a program which you can keep the tags on the car but you drop the coverage down to bare minimum and it is dirt cheap. Ask your agent, they may have a program where you dont' completely cancel the coverage, but make it next to nothing. Of course, I'm sure it is not loudly advertised.
