Default Brake pad dust

I recently replaced my rotors with Baer slotted and drilled oe replacements and I replaced my pads with Hawk ferro-carbon ones. My rotors have this black look to them. Is this the pad and is there anything I can do with it.

Probably is due from the pads but I am just wondering if the black look disappears after a good washing?

It's the plating wearing off the rotors -where the brake pads grab on the rotors. It will wear off and be shining metal. Normal - Not to worry!

High graphite pads will produce a lot of black dust. Ceramic pads produce the least amount of dust. Raybestos Quiet Stops are excellent along with EBS Greenies. I have Raybestos on the Vette and EBS on the SLK. I like them both equally well. Both are long lived and nearly no dust with either pad.

Enviromental concerns require all German pads to be high graphite, which are extremely dirty.

Semi-metallic pads are low dist however are soft for the first two stops of the day. They have to warm up to stop you well. Ceramic pads are best!

Yep. It's the pads. Hawke makes good racing brake pads - great for stopping but short on wear, long on dust and squeaks.

I went to GM ceramics with drilled/slotted rotors and have been very happy with the results.

My setup did the same thing - just give it a little time and the dust should go away. Mine did.

For the street, ceramics are a great setup
