New guy looking to learn.
Anyways As I just finished my last final and all I have left is a semester in Thailand I am looking at getting a new (to me) car. I love my 02 GT but the platform is just too slow and weak to start out on. So now I am trying to decide between a 03/04 cobra and a C5 vette. I hope to learn a lot of info on these car's and I promise no "which gears are best" threads from me!

Do you solemly swear that you won't ask the following, either?
1. MN6 vs A4
2. Which exhaust?
3. Which battery?
4. coupe vs. convertible vs. FRC
5. C6 headlights vs. C5 headlights
6. Do you hate wagon wheels?
Just kidding, newbie!!
Ask away! You'll find that most everyone here is pretty friendly and informative. Good luck with whatever your choice!

I've had 14 Vettes but this my first C5.
The guys in here know their stuff with no
The C5 is perhaps the best car I've ever owned and at my age I've owned a few. More than I'd like to mention.
Stock you are looking at a basic 340 horse and with MODS the sky is the limit.
It's a fun car, great "Fantastic Plastic."
(And besides they don't rust
)Best go with the C5 it's a legend in it's own time and they just aren't building them any longer (C6 for 05')
Welcome aboard!

Your decision will have to be made based on several factors:
1) Do you EVER need to carry more than two people?
2) Which would you rather drive; a sedan based on a thirty year old platform or a sports car designed from the ground up to be a sports car and ONLY a sports car?
3) Do you care ONLY about straight line acceleration?
4) Do you care about resale value?
What you'll find is that while the supercharged Cobra can meet or even beat certain C5's at the drag strip by a slight margin, as soon as the first curve is introduced into the decision making process, there IS no decision to make any longer. The fastest Cobra built in 2004 is fortunate indeed to retain sight of a C5's tail lights for more than a minute as soon as curves are introduced. On the other hand, C5's are really lousy for double dating. It all depends on your priorities.

As for a car, if I get a 03/04 the backseat will be removed (getting a DD beater along with a new car) Resale value doesn't matter to me (I have a GT don't I?
) True the Vette is the only sports car, but being the last pony car the newer cobras have a damn nice setup. 550rwhp is a slight dent in the wallet for the cobra. I am not Ford loyal but I love mustangs. THough even if I don't get one now nothing is stopping me from getting another mustang down the line. Hell I am 22 I have a lot of years to play.Though if anyone wants to make it a quick decision find me a cheap low milage mn6, removable glasstop, fairway green C5  I think I may have to repaint whatever I get to that color down the line.

(one last thing, if I stop responding it's because I am at home and I have to get the internet there again, Jan 6th I leave for Thailand, I will stop home when I feel a yearning for ameican icons)

At least your not looking at a Porsche Boxster....
