I'm not sure what forum to put thisa in (general or tech) but I just bought an 02 vette and it had a problem with the alternator and battery so new ones were put in. I let it sit for a couple days and went out and found the battery was dead. I got the battery charged, battery gage reads a little over 13. Ran for a while and was able to stop and restart engine. However, If I sit in the car with it off and keys out of ignition, I can hear a quiet humming noise that sounds like its coming from behind me. I sat there for 5 minutes or so and it never goes away. Not sure what it is. Does anyone have thoughts on this? Thanks again for any help.
Do you have an electric antenna?
Friend had one that constantly drained his batt.
Could be a fuel pump, but I think they are only on with the key.
Whatever it is it could be draining your batt.
I'm sure there is an answer on the forum somewheres.

Sounds like you have some electrical component that is not turning off as it should. I'd get it back to the dealer (hope it is under warranty still) and have them check this out.

The fuel pump is in the bulkhead behind you. It should shut off with the ignition. The power antenna could be doing it - if you have one. I could guess you do from your screen name, but since you have no information or profile stating you have a convertible (only model with a power antenna) the best anyone can do is give you a W.A.G.
Thanks. Yes, it is a 2002 convert with a power antenna. I do see the antenna gow down when I shut the car off. Could it still be using power? As you guys said, I contacted the dealer but nw I need to drive it 1.5 hours back to him and leave it. What a pain.. Just thought I would see if you guys had any ideas on things I could check. Thanks for the help.

With the ignition off - and the antenna down, place a finger on the stub of the antenna and see if it feels like the motor is still running. You should feel it. If so, you're gonna have to pull the fuse that powers the antenna - and I don't know which one that is.
Thanks for your help guys. I went back and heard the noise again, inside my garage I could hear it better. It was the lumbar control for the drivers seat. When I pulled it up the noise stopped. I pulled the fuse for it and the noise went away. I'll let it sit tonight and try to start it in the AM but I think that may have been the issue. Now to get the dealer to fix it. Thanks again.
