Default 500 bhp performance C5 Z06

For those who love their C5 Z06 BUT have a potential inferiority complex hiding in their gut waiting for the first time a C6 Z06 kicks their ***...... how about you guys who really know what's going on giving them a primer on what they can (or should) do to their C5 to make it competitive to the C6 by getting 500bhp out of their C5, where to get it done (best north, south, east and west) and a "ball park" figure on cost.

I don't judge my worth by how fast my car is..

All I know is that a stock Z06 is loads of fun.

But I would love to gain some insight on the recommended upgrade path from stock, to 500 rwhp.

In the Southwest, just drop your car off at 21st Century Musclecars along with ~$7,000, and your fears will melt away. You can go the head/cam/headers route, or supercharge - your choice.

Cam, heads, headers, cats, airbox, and tuning will put you ahead. Expect to pay around 7-10 grand.

I am putting 435 to the wheels which is around 500 at the crank which I'm guessing is about what the C6 Z06 will put to the ground.

Mods are Cartek 2X heads, Comp Cams 224/228 Cam LSA 114, ported intake and throttle body, Halltech Trap, Kooks 1 3/4" headers and off-road X-pipe, underdrive pulleys, Comp Cams pushrods. Approx $10K including labor.

Torque is where I think the C6 Z06 will kill me.... I'm looking forward to seeing some C6 Z06 numbers from the track.

For roughly $9K, Chris at ECS in NJ can install an ATI supercharger and get you around 550 to 575 horsepower at the wheels. That's well over 600 at the crank. Plenty enough to wax an unsuspecting C6 Z06.

If they want to upgrade their C6's first thing to do is change the body style.

I for one hope the c6 Z06 is badass. That way in a few years when I go from the c5 Z to the c6 Z, I'll be happy with it.

given that i have enough traction problems with 405 hp, i don't see how 500 will be any easier!

You can get to 500 with the LGM G5x3 cam and headers plus and U/D pulley. I think LGM is running a special right now on this setup. Give them a call for the most accurate pricing.

you need 325's like the c6 zo6, or maybe just go for the 355's.

The point is, when you hear the roar at start-up and the loping at idle, you will never go back to stock. And by the way, when your crusing at 70 and a kid in a BMW challenges, just shift into third and enjoy the Mozart!
