I thought putting the motor that the new z06 has would be a neat idea for the c5

I wonder if it will be based on the C5R block.

Several of us have after-market 427's, but it would be nice to have a factory engine with the full & extended warranty available.

Once C6 Z06 production gets into full gear GM might start selling the 427 as a crate motor for $15K-$20K.

I don't know, so I'll ask. Wouldn't the LPE be cheaper?

No. Go to LPE's web site. The 427 TT package is like $60K. Maybe more.

That is because of the TT's. However for a 427:
Lingenfelter: 427 CID 550 HP $20,995.00
Norris Motorsports: Complete 427 ZLS-1 and ZLS-6 Engine Package - $19995
The C5R-427 in our car cost more because of the C5R block, plus a few extra goodies. BTW Lingenfelter wanted $40,000 to add twin turbos to our 427.

I looked into getting a big block - but that kind of lolly is way out of my price range - because I would want to mod it after (or during actually) the install which would crank the price up to the LPE area...

I think we're all waiting around to see what the release of the C6Z06 looks like and how much the crate engine is going to be. I'm 99% certain that it will be workable into the C5....and will even guess that Andy@A&A will be the first to do it...
No one knows the price it will be, but I'd guess 12-14k crate price, which would be a steal...
At 515hp, less 12% driveline loss, I'm expecting a tad over 450rwhp in crate form. Of course, it wouldn't take much to hit the 500rwhp from there...possibly bolt ons. That would be truly amazing. No worries about springs, etc. Of course, 600rwhp would likely be feasible with a different cam and some major rework. Or a lot more with FI...

Someone will try this I'm sure. It would be a very
upgrade over the LS1, that's for sure.
