Does anyone know how much these things weigh? I am going to remove them and put in aftermarket seats but I would like to get an idea of how much weight I'm going to save if any.
The one's that I'm looking at weigh about 10 lbs each minus the brackets. If no one will reply to this I will let people know how much the stockers weigh as opposed to aftermarket. What I'm trying to do is find the best "no comprimise" weight reduction methods. We'lll see how this goes since my car is already pretty light. I don't want to give up ANYTHING that my car came with but I'm willing to spend the money on lightweight shyte. I call this project poor mans supercar
I think the stock seats weight is 47-48 lbs, i used a kirky seat and made lightweight brackets that bolt in the stock location.Brackets are 2 lbs and seat is 10 lbs, 82-84 lbs weight savings i guess. good luck, walt
The stock seats weigh 47 lbs each or together? That would be an amazing weight savings by just swapping seats. I like the look of the one piece shell seats anyway. Oh yeah, how did you make the brackets for your seats? Do they slide back and forth or are they stationary?
Wow, I haven't seen this thread in forever! I was borrowing a lot of information back then. I probably got it for DJWorm on the other forum. He knows a LOT, but he rarely provides any background on how he got his info, and whether he thinks they're for real or not. Did you see the line about carbon fiber halfshafts?? I know LG makes carbon fiber driveshafts, but if they exist for halfshafts too, I had no idea at all!
Anyway, I have a sport seat out of my '98 sitting around. I'll plop it onto my 50 lb shipping scale and post up a new number if the scale is big enough for it.
Now I'm using GM pubs, my own scales, and crossreferencing my numbers. Even in this thread you can see a bunch of discrepencies, but at least you can trace it back to the original source. If you come up with new figures, I'll post that up as well.
Well, no one asked for me to weigh my seats, but I just found out the C6 seat back frame is made of SMC, so that should save a few pounds. Anyone know if it'll fit in the C5? Could be a nice way to get stock adjustable slippery seats if you don't want the dedicated nature of racing buckets. Check the thread above in a few minutes and I'll have the information on the C6 vs C5 seats posted.
