Default Methods for cleaning engine

Just wondering how everyone cleans their engine bay and parts or if there is a preferred method? Thanks

I use an air compressor to blow out all the dust and grit. Then use a semi-
soapy cloth and wipe down everything I can reach (which includes a long
handled brush to reach the hard to get to places). Then wipe down with
a damp chamois.

I do the same...
About once a year, I spary the WARM engine down with Simple Green, let it ist for about 10 minutes, then spary it off with the hose. Comes out GREAT!!!
I do this on all my cars, including my wife's Grand Cherokee, engine compartment still looks new.
I have a perssure washer too, but I've blown off a lot of the stickers under the hood, so usually just do as above, ART

There have been a number of discussions on this subject in the past in the Car Care Products section of the Forum. A thread on this is going around over there now.

Default Engine wash

Just don't use an air compressor to blow the water off the engine. The reason is you will force water into parts that are sealed. By putting pressure from an air compressor will cause water into places it should not be.
Make sure that the engine is cool you do not want condensation forming inside were it don't belong.

Is there any kind of smell afterwards?

Good article, they recommend doing it on a cold engine to reduce the risk of condensation. Also came across an article comparing aftermarket intakes. Anyone notice that they dynoed a '99 C5 with 237.5 RWHP argh!!! Something wrong with that car or their dyno.

Hasn't gotten dirty yet, but I use aerospace 303 to keep it clean. I heard about the stuff on the forum a couple of years ago. Hands down, it is the best stuff I have ever used.

I just keep up with the car and wipe the engine every few days with a damp cloth and she is always clean.

I use some Simple Green on a rag for the greasy spots (if there are any) and a moist Absorber to get the dust off the other parts. I've tried to keep mine really clean ever since I got the car, so nothing really builds up on the engine.

I agree with Michael B. I do use the simple green method for the greasy metal parts, then I use Aerospace 303 protectant for all plastic and rubber to maintain their elasticity and avoid cracking. Very nice results.
