I believe they are not legal in any State, but I had them on my other C5 for 2 years without any issues.

I have had all my cars blacked out, DRL disabled, tinted and no front plate for the past 6 years (since I first came to the US).

I have been stopped for other things but NEVER for blackouts, tint or no front plate (lucky??)

I have met many nice LEOs from various states. They have never hassled me about anything beyond the legitimate reason they stopped me.

All respect to LEOs, they have a tough job - I do not ever try to make their job harder by being a hardcase. Seems to work - never any hassle from LEOs without just cause.

Your mileage may vary, however.

EG

I had a forum member (gst20psi) make me some , but using a lighter shade of acrylic. They look just as black as the regular blackouts when lights are not on, show up real good when lights are on.
Waiting to do some more stuff before I do pics though.

I bought my acrylic blackouts from gst20psi and the lights look normal when they are switched on - but totally black when the lights are off.

Here are the blackouts with the lights switched on:

And during the day, they look like this:

I have painted blackouts, and I worry that if I am in a fender bender, that my insurance company could deny a claim, if the other cars driver were to say, they didn't see my brake lights.

I also got my blackouts from gst20psi and recommend them highly. Whether or not blackouts are legal, this varies from state to state. They are legal in Missouri...I talked to a police officer about it and he said its okay in Missouri as long as your lights shine through. The blackouts from gst20psi shine through fine.

You can see some pics on my car at the thread below. Look at both pages in the thread as I posted pics in each page. I love the blackout look and the price is very affordable.

I took mine off when I realized they were scratching the paint around the lens. And I was always worried about the insurance thing too if someone rear ended me

Have blackouts on our GRT-WITE and it looks sooooo fine. No problems as far as I know in PA. Had it inspected and they were more concerned about he tinted windows.
