Hook it up, then in the Spring, when you get the urge to drive it, remove the Tender and put it away untill Winter. These things are self regulating and a very good investment.
Hook it up and leave it plugged in, that is the whole purpose of it. It will only charge the battery as needed unlike a trickle charger that charges it all the time.

Dont have to un hook anything just hook black cable to black cable on battery and red cable to red cable on battery no need to to take any cables off your battery. And just leave it alone.I have mine on for the whole winter.Dont unhook it unless you are taking it out of storage.
Just bought a new battery. I discussed the use of the Battery Tender with him - He also sold the Battery Tenders- and he advised against using it this year. The old battery died and I play when the roads are clear all winter. He stated that The battery would be good up a three week lay-off. and that the Battery Tenders would not extend the life of the battery or provide any benifit to me. Hope he's right.
My lovely wife bought me one for an early Christmas present and I hooked it up to our '32 Ford Street Rod as soon as I got it. The battery in the Deuce was dead as hell. By the next day the Battery Tender had changed from the red light to the green light. So, I unhooked it, got in and the Deuce fired right up and I drove away with a big smile on my face. The battery for that car is under the car on the right side between two frame rails and it is a bitch to jump off so this is a real lifesaver for me.
We drive our 2004 Corvette enough that I don't think I'll need it for that car but it's great to have just in case! I love my Battery Tender.
P.S. It pays to shop around on these. On the Battery Tender website, their list price is $59.95 for the 12V Battery Tender Plus (the best one for most cars) but I got mine on eBay for $38.50 "Buy It Now" price.
