The engine in this car is a prototype 425 cu in engine which they said will be available in the future as a crate engine. The engine could possible be the one going into the 06 Z06.

Should be interesting if that motor would fit in my 2004 Z06.

He said that they were scheduled to be crushed by GM anyway so at least parts lived on via transplant. They might have been GM test mules. The finished Toronado was pure art and gutsy performance too.

I made a DVD of the show. At first I was heartbroken about the Vettes, but it became clear that they were to a crushed. It is implied that the Vettes came from GM, and from the looks of them, they were probably used as body mules for C6 deveolpment, cause there weren't any outer skins on them. No salvage yard would crush such a chassis as there is a LONG waiting list for them. These were likely indeed test or development platforms that GM policy will clearly state cannot be sold as parts to the public for lots of liability reasons, hence the policy to crush them. All the car compainies crush LOTS of perfectly good [ at least to the enthusuast crowd] test platforms and mule cars every year. I've heard they even crush buy-back lemon law cars, so that they don't ever get back into the public domain. Its too costly to part them out, so what other avenue do they have to protect the themselves in liability? Sad but true. Given the amount of GM brass associated with the project, AND the open door for 2 weeks at the super secret GM test track [ its bigger than 5 acres what the narrator said, more like 5000] I would say these exec. guys were looking for a way to keep the chassis out of the crusher too. What a sweetheart deal for both GM and Leno.... a WHOLE LOT of great PR!
If your gonna get a rope, get one to raise Lenno and the GM execs up on a pedastal, for making it possible to lend a new life to those doomed Vette parts.... Better in an old Olds than in a scrap metal smelter.
The end result was a hum-dinger! WOW Jennifer
