I was just wondering if anyone has a repair suggestion for my passenger side view mirror, which has been flapping in the breaze, short of ordering a new unit from GM. 1997 coupe.
Can't help you. I also have a 97, and have had the passenger side view mirror broken twice by people just walking by in tight spaces. I had GM repair it twice, both times it wasn't cheap. Several hundred bucks.
There is a fellow who offers a repair at a very reasonable charge, perhaps a search will yield some information or someone with a better memory will chime in. I've done my own using a hose clamp to replace the post clip.

It's my daily driver. I park it in a crowded lot. Mirrors on both sides have been "flapped" for a total of 4 times.
The first time it happened, I looked into replacements. $350 was my quote. I said F that and cement glued the mirrors in place. Cost me $5 for the glue and I can live without folding mirrors.
Yes there is a fix!
Stop wasting your money with GM and new mirrors - your just buying the same problem.
Call Ed Swanech @ 330 757 9466. He is a vette guy that fixes them permanately for $60-70. You send him your whole mirror and it comes back in about a week depending on shipping time. He does great work. He's fixed both of mine at different times. I got his name off this forum. Do a search - others swear by him as I do now!
