Default ? Diablo Predator Tuners?

Anyone have any exp with this product? Is it worth the money? Does it actually do anything to the C5?

I bought one, and it's an excellent tool for the money, IMHO.

Post this thread in the C5 Scan and Tune section - you will get a lot more detailed info there about the Predator.

I have it. I like it. I have the performance tune installed. I have played with the timing and air / fuel ratios a little. I reset the cooling fan on and off temps to match up wiith the 180 deg. thermostat. And I reset the tire size when I swapped out the EMT's.
The performance tune did make more power but I have only the seat of the pants dyno as proof of the improvement.

Here's my 2 cents.

I bought one for my Vette and wasted 200 bucks before I got smart and bought HP tuners. They screw GM owners but let FORD guys swap the units without charge. Bastages, don't deserve another dime from any GM owner till they level the playing field. That said they did change this on the 2004 model Pred's, but they F**ked everyone who bought one before that. I agree with you G-lock. Why would you spend what is it around $4OO for a predator and have limited tuning options or spend $499 for hptuners and have unlimited tuning capabilities, forum support, and wbo2 data logging. I went with hp and I wouldnt go any other way. Hp does everything I need and then some.

I would go with LS1 Edit before I would fork over the cash for the Predator.

An edit program will definately provide more granular control over all aspects of PCM programming. However, the Predator allows you make tuning changes without having to make a shop appointment, and also allows you to restore the stock tune before bringing the car to a dealer for service or warranty work. I've also heard too many horror stories of guys losing their dyno tune because the dealer reflashed their computer (e.g., for a recall campaign). Some of them even reflash to reset the oil life indicator, even though it can be done via the DIC.

BW1-
One small problem, if you have your car reflashed at the dealer and you then reload the saved stock tune back on the car you will lose whatever the dealer put on. Now if they updated the OS and calibration ID's the Predator will probably not restore the stock tune as it would probably crash the PCM. I was considering having the code updated in my PCM when I had the Predator but was told it would have to be shipped back to be cleared, originally I was told no charge then I was told 75.00, mind you this isn't an issue for FORD's. HPTuners all the way, screw DiabloSport if you have a GM. Jeff

That's why you upload the saved stock tune before bringing your car to the dealer. At that point, the Predator is unlocked and could be used on any compatible GM vehicle (including your own car with the new dealer flash). At least that is true for the 2004 Predator (I've done it).

Of course, if you did any manual tweaks, they will have to be redone.

That is exactly correct for 2004's and Fords, 2004 GM's don't marry themselve to the VIN, putting the stock tune back on truly removes it from the flash memory on the Predator. This IS NOT the case for any other GM Predator, it must be cleared by DS and then you can remarry it and put the new factory tune on it. Good luck. Jeff
