I went to a local Canadian Tire store here in Ontario looking for a battery tender but no such luck. I bought a small device called a "Trickle Battery Charger" that has 1.5 amp automatic operation that switches from full charge to float charge mode and then monitors the battery. I have never had one of these devices and want to make sure it does not overcharge and cause the battery acid to leak. Does this description sound similar to a battery tender and is it okay to leave it on all winter? Here is a picture of what it looks like.
somewhere in the manual it should tell you... my guess is that it should not overcharge. if your vette is at home maybe just turn it on a couple times a week or contact the manufacturer with your specific question..........
I just bought the same one at Cdn Tire a couple of months ago...its charging the battery from my '90 on my workbench as we speak...it will flip into "maintenance mode" once its at full charge and will do so whenever the charge drops to a certain point...they cover it in the instruction sheet but u have to dig for the info.
Quick edit...I had to buy a pair of posts to properly connect the charger to the battery...they are right next to the chargers at Canadian Tire...couple of bucks...not sure if you'll need them, just an FYI...

The very same charger as the Sears Diehard Battery Charger Maintainer sold in the USA. Just a different label on the front. I have the Diehard and it works perfectly. Being fully automatic with 1.5 A slow charge they are designed to be plugged in and forgotten about without harm of overcharging.
Thanks for all the input, I believe this one is made by the same manufacturer that makes them for Sear's. I will put mine on as soon as it warms up a touch. The battery currently reads 10.8 volts.
After the battery dying with 3 weeks of setting, I decided enough of that. I've had the Battery Tender Plus for a couple of years and have had no regrets. You should be okay with that one. You just want to stay away from a trickle charger...it MAY overcharge your battery and cause it to leak.

Tino, Not too hard to find. I purchased my Battery Tender Junior in 2003 at a Kawasaki bike dealership here in Guelph Ontario for about $55.00 CAD. Probably any large dealership in Richmond Hill should carry these accessories. If not, try Two Wheel Motorsport in Guelph 519-836-1957. If you go onto BT web site they will list types of dealer who will carry them. You can also try a Harley, Yamaha dealer too.
