Default Wheel/tire combo, what do ..............

you guy's/girls think of this idea?

My 99 came with 8.5x9.5" Z06 replica's. I'm happy with the look. The front tires are in bad need of replacing(almost bald), however the rears(275x18) are in great shape.

One of our wheel vendors is offering a Chrome Z06 wheel like mine, in an 18x12. I was thinking of doing this.........

Getting the 18/12's for rear use(I can put on big meat in the back now, which I would like)and buying the tires to go with them. Then putting my current rear wheels/tires on the FRONT. Then, I would have 18x9.5" in the front w/ 275's and 335x18 in the rear(or 315). The vendor claims that the 335's will fit w/o any tubbing.

Would this be feasible?

Feasible, but, unless you don't mind the rear tires sticking out about an inch from the rear fenders feel free.

The rear will stick out a little but it can be done. You might want to consider the 18/11 with a 305 tire
good luck

Yes, you could put the 18x9.5's in the front. I run a 17x9.5 in the front now and it looks good up there.

JD,

What size tires are u running up front? I would be using 275's and I hope they will fit.
Also, how about the rake from aft to the front. If I'm running 18's on both front and rear, there would be no rake like the stock 18/17 set-up. That is if the profiles are the same too.

If you currently have 275/35/18's on the back, your plan would work.

If you have 275/40/18's now, and want to move those to the front, the 335's you put on the rear will then be shorter than your front tires. This is a no-no.

Besides looking very bad, you'd have to shut off traction control just to drive the car, as it would certainly kick in during normal driving.

I currently have 275/40's. What if I used 315's instead, maybe they have more profiles to choose from?

The only 315's I know of are 315/30/18's, and they are even shorter in height than the 335/30's are.

I would not use 275/40's on the front, period. Too tall.

OK what if I used the 17" wheels I currently have on the front and mounted the 275's on them? It would be tight but could 275's be mounted on a 8.5" wheel?

The Z has 265s on a 9.5 wheel so I don't think a 275 tire would be the optimal choice for a 8.5 wheel.

A 275 usually calls for a minimum of a 9" wheel.

If you;'re resorting to using the 17" fronts you have and need new tires anyways, a 255/40/17 or 265/40/17 is what would work best.

I've been looking into this issue too. What I've come up with to match a 315/30/18 rear is either a 285/30/18 or a 265/35/18 for the fronts in order to remain a tad shorter than the rear tire, keeping the TC happy.
