I think I had posted this question in the wrong spot
a few weeks ago.
For the members who've had the 2004 control arm
nut recall done. It seemed the "average" wait time at
the dealer was about an hour or so.
Now, another member had posted the entire recall
procedure (from GM). Someone else had commented
that the steps described in the procedure would take
AT LEAST 2 hrs!
Most of the work is on the rear end where the entire
rear caliper assemblies would have to be removed in
order to gain access to, and measure the torque on the
control arm nuts.
Checking the front lower control arm nuts are easy,
and so is replacing them (that should take about an
hour maybe less). The rear assemblies are the labor
intensive ones.
So I guess my question is, how confident are you
guys that the work was ACTUALLY done correctly, given
you were in and out of the dealer in an hour or so ?
I'm presuming an "experienced" competent Corvette
specialist could do the work quickly, but unless you
actually witnessed them doing the job, that doubt will
always be there.
What's to keep them from saying "oh yeah, we did
the recall", put in a labor/parts claim to GM and get
paid for it, while you still have a car that hasn't been
properly serviced/inspected per the GM bulletin ?
It took about five hours to do mine. The tech was very thorough and showed me what he did at each step. I believe the job could have been done quicker, but I apprerciate the extra time and care he used to be careful with my car.
No, this did not affect all '04 vettes. There was a build date time range, something approximately early January '04 through early April '04. If you didn't get a recall notice, it doesn't affect your vette. It took them approx 2 hours to do the recall on mine.
