Default "Low Oil" display?!?

is there a chance this could be broken?? its driving me absolutely nuts!!!! every week or so i will get the "low oil" display when i start up the car. it will keep coming up when im driving, i keep clearing it. then about 2 start-ups later, it doesnt come on anymore!?

ive heard that it only registers the oil level right when the car is started? and doesnt monitor while driving? my oil levels seem to be fine, so whats the fix for this??

Are you parking on an incline? If so park on a level surface.

The dipstick on the C5 is a little tricky. When the car is perfectly level with the engine shut off - pull the dip stick, wipe it totally clean, even in that little "bent area" push it back in and holding it pointed down - read the level. If the oil is at the top of the "ADD" - then all is okay. If not add some.....

I had this same problem, and kept pulling the dip stick and wiping it off with one pass of the rag and it looked fine. Finally I decided to do it more carefully and discovered I was about a quart low.

I know - sounds stupid , but worth a shot!

I had trouble with the low oil level display and found the oil was indeed low... only a few weeks after an oil change by the dealer. The indicator kept appearing even after I added the correct amount of oil... that is, until I shut the car off and left it overnight. I learned from the dealer that you can re-set the DIC after you fill the oil, but the car actually has to cool down for an hour or more (shut off) before it will completely re-set.... otherwise the indicator will return after a few minutes of driving. I would re-check the oil level.

I know this may sound completely out in right field but "Have you checked your oil level"? It has come on in my car a few times but believe it or not the oil level was low. I think it automatically comes on when you are 1.5 qts low.

Same thing happened to me yesterday. I checked the oil and it was about 1.5 quarts low, filled it up and DIC flashed the message again. Drove about 5 miles, shut it down, same message again at start-up. Started it up this morning and didn't get "low oil" message. I think mfh4 has it figured out correctly.
