So, They've been stiffing us since they brought out the C4. J/K- I know what great cars they are. Thanks for the chart. I've wondered that before, but I'm way too stupid to have figured that out. BTW- If this is what you do on the weekend, what do you do during the week?
It is ironic that the real-dollar price increases begin about 1981. The heavy inflation was mostly behind us by then. A lot of new safety and emissions regulations must have kicked in about then requiring actual new equipment and capabilities. Or Chevy could have decided at that time to start improving the car. Or they could decided that they would start gouging us for more.
By the way, I have one correction to your chart. Where it says "V6", it should say "In-line 6" or "I6".
Considering the high tech gadgetry, polution control and fuel economy requirements, and modern safety features, (not to mention the performance) the C5 and C6 Vettes have been a bargain. I think all Vette owners would agree.
Thanks for the info. Just finding pricing data back to '53 had to be a chore.
Great job and interesting to see how well the value seems to have held for the past two gen's. One thing that would be much harder would be the market price since we have two C5's in the garage with my '02 going for $45k out the door with $47k sticker and my wife's '04 going out the door for $39k with a sticker of $51k. 2% inflation in price per year, about 1k per year, another 2k in added options but discount for end of model. But that also draged down all the used prices until the C6 settles in and there is a correction based on perceived value to low mile C5's.
The C5's may have cost more than what I used to drive but on a grin scale they have way more value for me and the wife!
