Somewhat Disturbing
The first time a police officer was on my tail was when I was driving through a small town. I'm sure they don't get too many if any C5's out there, but still. He whipped his car around and drove up behind me, and he too was so close I could not see his headlights! He called me in also. I was doing the speed limit there too (although it was quite slow).
In both instances, they never turned on their lights or pulled me over. Both just backed off and went by their merry way. It does make me nervous that they were both driving so close. If I was driving ANY other one of my cars, I would have been very tempted on slamming my brakes and having them try explaining that to their chief!! But it is not an option in my vette. I also couldn't brake because I had a passenger in the car on both instances. I am just wondering if this is something that other vette owners deal with. I think both officers were just jealous because they didn't own a vette! I don't mind if they were just checking to make sure the car wasn't stolen (I hope that is all that it was). If MY vette was stolen, I would want them to check every vette out there! I just didn't like the fact that they were driving so dang close. I have owned a sports car ever since I had a license, and never dealt with officers driving so close. I have been picked on a few times by officers in the past, but they never put me, my passenger or themselves in danger like that.
On a good note though, I installed some slotted rotors and ceramics today!
BTW - this is the C4 section, if your in a C5 check out their genral board.

1). Checking out the car. C5s are very nice to look at, IMO, and it wouldn't surprise me to see an LEO just trying to get a close-up look.
2). Tailgating you so that you would speed up and they can get you for speeding. If you are unfazed and don't speed up, they'll just go on to the next car.
I've seen both happen, but I'd guess it was #2.

BTW,That did happen to a co-worker of mine. The cop was harrassing him on his way home from work, stopped him once, and tailgated him a few times. He slammed on the brakes [like you mentioned], the cop swirved almost into a ditch, he then stopped my friend, who swore a racoon had just crossed the road, and he was unaware the cop was behind him.
But this 'cop' had it out for him.
Now, my friend hates cars and drives an old beat-up Buick, so the cop thought he was fair game, no money for defense lawyers.
After, the cop did some simple research, and found out my freind owns in a $800K plus house on exclusive lagoon property.
Surprise , now the cop caught up to him one day and tried to make freinds with him.

I've seen it a million times, people driving in the left lane, a cop comes up behind them, flashes the high beams and the guy refuses to move over, so he gets pulled over and gets ticketed.
Bottom line, you may have not been speeding, but you may have been breaking the law.
At least that's the way it is in NJ.
The DPS officer came up to my window and said "Hey, what kind of car is this? its neat! " .... My jaw just dropped.
So weird things do happen, and sometimes has nothing to do with you breaking the law any.

Was this moved from somewhere...because its posted twice here.....?? I think hes tryin to say something about following too close.....
It seems to me people like to stop close and tailgate more when I'm in the Vette It's rather alarming, so I try to ignore them even when they are on the phone and drinking a latte or reading
.I probably deserved it the one time, 'cause I was speeding a little:o, but it's 'cause traffic was barely doing the speed limit in the fast lane!?
But yeah, that time when the cop was pulling me over, I didn't even realize it at first.....all I saw was a solid white mass in my rearview
.....I couldn't see either his headlights, or even the lights on the roof!?
And, knowing that my car could surely out-brake the cop car, I had to slow down "slowly" so that he wouldn't hit me, 'cause he tail-gated the whole time until we stopped
.I got pulled over another time though by a 30's~"ish" cop and a late 20's female cop, and the guy just reamed me out for nothing, threatening to charge me with careless, and lectured me about being a 20-year-old "hot-shot" in a "fancy sports-car"
. I hadn't done anything, and he let me go, I'm sure he was just jealous about the car and was flexing some "authoritive muscle" in front of the hot young chick cop
. What an a$$h0le
