Griot's makes a window polish/cleaner that does a good job. It comes in a very fine grade for minor work and then a heavier cleaner for more stubborn water spots. Used it on my wifes 98 when we bought it used. It had some real water spot problems and used the heavy cleaner with an orbital buffer and it did a great job of bringing the window back to a new appearence.
NEVER, EVER wash your car after it has been sitting in the sun even if you move it to the shade. Feel the glass and car body if both are cool to the touch then you should be ok. If the glass and/or body are hot the soap, wax or other material's residue spots will etch into the glass and/or body and it will be there permanently. After a few years it will lighten but it never disappears. You may be able to find something to remove it........ I never did. Fortunately I learned my lesson before I bought my Z! Thank God!
OK, are you ready for this? I use Wenol polish. Yep, polish. It'll take off water spots pronto! No, it doesn't hurt the glass. No, it won't scratch the glass. Yes, water beads off just fine. Yes, I've used it many times on several cars. I follow that up with Brilanize plastic cleaner. No problems at all.
rubbing alcohol takes water spots right off of glass. it also takes tree sap off of paint without harming the paint, just wax the area when you're done (the paint that is, not the glass)
I had the same problem on my '97 front glass also. I tried most of the above but did not help. What finally worked for me was Dupont rubbing compond, the old fashion stuff in the tin.
I have the same spots on all the glass of my car. I have it on all the windows and the rearview mirrors. I even took it to the dealer because it ticked me off that I could not get it off. They used a little acid and that helped a little but still didn't work. I don't know what to do. It irritates me! I am glad I am not the only one this has happend to. It really is not a big deal. I am the only one that notices it!
Give citric acid a try. Same stuff found in the peels. We use it to passivate our water system piping such as WFI "Water For Injection". Works great on ground water deposits.
well, i got the water spots off, i mixed up a cup of half water, half white vinigar and scrubbed the glass with 000 steel wool, just dunk the wool pad in the mixture and scrub away, it worked great and no scratches on the glass, all the water spots are gone and the glass looks brand new, then i waxed the glass to prevent this from happening again......
