Q's:
1. Glass or Lexan? Feels like glass.
2. Upkeep? Keep it from "clouding".
3. Just regular wax / sealer?
Any tips would be appreciated. TIA!
Dave Q.
1. Lexan
2. Plexus. Don't let water spots develop
3. No wax or sealer, just Plexus
I had mine on all last summer, needed a hat on really hot days to keep the heat off my bald head. Other than that, I love it. Haven't had my painted top on since I got the clear.
[QUOTE=MyVetteDream]Well, I pulled the trigger! Found a clear top last night, picked it up today! It's in excellant condition and I love that vaulted ceiling feeling.
Glad you like it .It was nice meeting you and your friend.
I wanted the clear top when I got mine but only came with painted. I would like to have the clear in the cooler months. Not to steal the thread but where is a good place to get one and about how much to they run.
re: the heat. You can get a "dot-matrix" plastic laminant (film) that uses static cling to fit on the inside of the panel to cut down the penetration of the sun's rays. I've had this film like material since I got the car (2003)but have never applied it to my C5. It works very well on my C3 mirrored T-Tops which seem to conduct MUCH more heat than the acryllic material.
Since we are touching on the subject of Clear vrs Solid top, I was wondering if any Forum Members use the Headliner Blackout that Mid America Motorworks has. It attaches to the clear roof with attachment brackets. If so, could you take a minute and explain your opinion of it ?? Ease of attaching, does it stay put, does it work, quality, etc.
I am looking at this part, or the Roofpanel Sunliners mentioned earlier.
FYI, I'm also interested in purchasing a Pewter Solid Roof is anyone comes across one for my '02.
You'll also find info the care of the top in your owners mannual. I have one on my 04 and other than glass cleaner, I don't put anything else on it. You may also want to use a very soft cloth as it will scratch easier than the painted one.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. As always, great info from a great bunch of people!
Eric - Nice meeting you as well. Thanks for "trusting" me. LOL. I hope your son didn't get too cold. He was great for bearing with us. I do love it.
Poptops- I'll be looking into the sun shade part. It's like a comedian said, we (humans) want windows for sun, then we want shades to put in the windows to block the sun. We are so complicated. I'll just use my solid roof when the time comes ... or I may just have it tinted a little bit.
I have sheet of Lexan in my garage, so I'll do some R&D. I'll post any "break thrus" which may be helpful and/or useful regarding waxing, causes of clouding. etc. Take care all and thanks again. :

I have the headliner blackout from Mid America. It's actually an insert made of the same material as the OEM headliner. It just slips into the space between the top and body frame. My only complaint is that it sits too low, I hit my head on it, so I've never used it. I have the static cling material too, to block the sun. It smells so bad when it heats up that it makes my eyes water. Never used it again.
