I have a chance to purchase a solid roof top for my '02 C5. The problem is that the color needs to be changed to match the body, Pewter.
I'm looking for suggestions from forum members who may have done this already. Basically I'm looking for information such as if the roof needs to be taken apart, is it best to strip off the old paint, and any other tips you may have, etc.
And, if anyone has done this has a ballpark cost to do it right. I'm certain that I would want it done base coat and clear like the reat of my C5.
Thank you for your inputs, the members of this forum in the short month and half since I've been on here are terrific.
Apart from painting, be sure to fit and adjust the new roof correctly BEFORE painting. Contrary to popular belief, any "new" (non-original) roof may need considerable adjustment.

I just went through this. First of all, let me tell you that taking the roof apart is a complete and total bitch. I worked and worked on it and never could figure out how to get it completely apart.
Second, apparently, it can be done because some body shops say they'll do it....to the tune of about $400.
Since mine was a spare that I intended to use only during very hot periods during the summer when the lexan is cooking my head, I felt I could stand a bit of "cheaper" work. I ended up getting the guys at Maaco to simply tape it up and paint it. I figured you'd still be able to see the pewter color (ironic, isn't it) if you looked hard, but I could live with that and an orange peel paint job for the brief periods I'd have the top on.
Turns out that they did such a good job painting it, I can neither find any pewter on it nor any orange peel. They really did a great job for me.
i bought a solid top from a forum member this fall and had to be repainted from black to Torch Red. all that was necessary was masking and it turned out great.

Hey Jackalope..
That sounds like what I want to do...From where did you get the solid roof panel and what did it cost?

I would think that as long as they taped it up well, sanded down the original color then did a quality paint job/clear coat on it, it would work just fine. I have thought about it since I only have the clear top. Just haven't done it yet.

I got the used roof panel from Gene's Karshop (a forum vendor). Seems to me that it was about $350, but then I had to buy a replacement headliner and get it painted. Have about $500 in the whole thing.
