Hey guys, I have a question I'm about to pull the trigger on this mod- my understandings out of reading all the posts:
1) No issues with R13 fiberglass (WITHOUT paper backing) in the wheel wells on a DAILY DRIVEN car, even in rain, snow etc. so long as I watch the drains.

2) Reflectix in the wheel wells, but Frost king inside? I was a little unclear on this one.

I went to HD last night and they had Frost King but it was 3/4" in thickness. Definately not the stuff I need, and the reflectrix they didnt even have. So, I guess I'm going to go to Lowes tonight.

Another question, R13, why did we decide on R13, what about some of the other stuff? R19? Etc....

The FK was in the heating and cooling section, along with the metal tape of my Lowes and the Reflex was in the insolation section. I did not do the R13 even though it is not a DD and never sees the rain. The R13 issue was unresolved from my viewpoint... Also I did FK in the wheel wells. It was my understanding that the Reflex was for the tunnel in the passenger compartment of the car.

I am going to start Phase 3 (passenger compartment) next weekend!!!

Peace

This is a great mod, but save yourself a lot of time and headaches and purchase the pre-cut kits from Dan at Exotic Vette

I`ve done the FK mod to the cargo area, everything behind the seats-back....I hardly notice any difference at all. Not sure I want to take the effort to remove the rear inner wheel well liners to put the fiberglass batting in.
Wish I`d had access to a DB Meter and done a before and after reading.

This is a thread from a month or two ago that just got popped, but It came out good. I had on my Snap On gloves for the job...but forgot to put them back on after a beer break and it took me all of 5 minutes to put a DEEP 3" long paper type cut down my index finger!!!

Hmmm at $225 I wonder if thats worth it. It'll look neat, like it belongs, no cutting etc. I spent $90 tonight on 1 bag of R13, 3 rolls of FK, 1 of 16"x24' Reflex and one roll of metal tape and this is only intended to do the rear section. I dont mind cutting etc, I built an entire fiberglass box in the center rear stowage compartment for my sub and THAT was a pain and REAL messy and itchy.

Also, I could not find any R13 anywhere that didn't have the paper backing. That stuff is listed for exterior storage and use on exterior walls so its supposed to be weather resistant...

OK I'm confused now, Evil Twin writes to put reflectix in the wheel wells, but others use FK? Which is it!?!? And, reflectix does not have a adhesive backing? This is what the metal tape is for I assume.

I really dont need the heatshielding anymore on the console, because I put on this tunnerl shield stuff from DEI above my OEM "backbone" and that made a world of difference in the console heat. So I'm considering using FK exclusively.

I think if anything the R13 probably makes the hugest difference, my snow tires now are really LOUD going down the highway. I was on cell phone tonight and had to yell. Daily driven cars please chime in!!!

I placed the fiberglass insulation in a garbage bag (or two) and stuffed it in the cavity open end down. That way water will not soak the stuff. If you just place it in there with no water barrier it will get wet when washing the car or in rain. Those drains just dump into the same cavity as you are putting the insulation in.
Good luck!

Don't forget ET (Evil Twin).
He put alot of time and effort into sharing his insights and results especially on the noise reduction issues. I don't mean to take anything away from Tim either.

agreed. It was Bill that started the effort in reducing interior heat & noise.
