Default question about my TB

I took the tb off to clean it and the butterfly is open. Is this normal? It's only open about 1/4in. Should it be closed? If it is bad what kind is the best to replace it with.
Thanks
Marty

Default TB open slightly

I wonder if it has something to do with drive by wire. Since there is not a throttle cable maybe the blade stays open a little until the key is turned on. Just a thought.

Im no expert on the vette electronic throttle, but I would guess that it maybe has a spring in it that holds it open a bit when no power is going to it so that starting is easier, then the computer and the servo take hold of it and overpower the spring and close it down a bit to get the right idle. Make sense.

Slightly open is normal. Nothing to worry about.

The TB is "drive by wire". When electricity is applied (when it is reconnected) it will be closed.

I can't say if it's normal or not, but I'd suggest checking out the bearing. It's supposed to be swaged (crimped) on a part of the tube to keep the bearing/bar inside of it from sliding side-to-side. The crimp may be opening up. If the bearing/bar slides, the throttle plate can be prevented from closing all the way. It's really easy to fix. The early FAST 90mm throttle bodies didn't come swaged, and many owners just crimped the tube themselves, recommended the fix to FAST, and now FAST swages all their throttle bodies.

It's normal. I've had mine off numerous times, and also have a Shaner S2 (exquisite TB by the way) that has had all of the stops adjusted and properly set. Both TB's are open a crack because of the drive by wire set-up.
