The CD player is the stock unit. Nothing else has been modified.
The GM-Bose OEM head/amp unit speaker output is between 1.5 to 2 ohms to their speakers. All aftermarket units are at 4 ohms. That is probably why you're not getting the lows that were with the factory unit.

I have been advised that Alpine makes a 6-CD changer that can be adapted to my player with the help of a $100 adapter. If so will the bass improve with the new changer or do I need to take other steps.
They want $1000 for sub-woofers, with the case costing about half of that. Plus they want to put it in the rear which conflicts with my partition. I like the effects of the partition and prefer not to let in those outside sounds again.
I've got a sub, 2 amps, capacitor, Alpine head unit and 6 disc changer in my 04 Z16. I even had them make a fake panel that goes over the amps behind the seats. I also have a partition, it does not impact the box that sits in the "hole" in the back of my Z.

That's interesting. You've got the subs in the rear, in the holes, and the partition does not keep the base out. That what the technicians told me, but it was hard to believe. Thanks for the info. Now if I can just come up with an extra $1000 for the subs. It should be a terrific system.
I also have a 12" sub mounted in a custome made box sitting in the back center opening. Still get great low base sounds even with my partition (Andy's) in place.
Any chance you wired the amps/speakers out of phase? That will cancel out the bass.
mike
The amp was installed professionally, but there's always a chance there's a problem. Is there a way of checking without asking them to check the wires?

Thanks. I do not wish to spend $1000 and take a chance that the bass does not get through. The new speakers are great. The Bose were worse than the ones on my 1994.

Trust me you will get more bass than the car can handle, don't forget bass is "non-directional", if anything the partition makes it a little more of a "tight-punch".

You may just need to adjust the bass setting on the amp, if you are trying to get a "thump" out of the component speakers with no sub it's not going to happen. It takes a bunch of power to get a thump compared to highs and mids.

Thanks to all who made the input. Now I just have to make the decision about putting $1000 into subwoofers. Based on the sound I have now, and the info I am receiving, I think it will be a worthwhile addition. Why get a dream car and settle for less on the stereo.

The head unit is the key, you are stilll going through its outputs to your amp. I know that I had to go to an aftermarket head unit when my McIntosh MCC 404 amp was not producing the mid bass that it did in my previous car with a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X969 head unit. I have Pioneer TS-M7PRS (6 3/4" MidWoofer) in the doors and rear. For the money they are the best sounding Mid bass speakers out there. You can put in a JL Audio "Stealthbox" enclosure model SB-GM-VET/10W3/BA, it will not interfere with your partition as it is made to fit in the rear well area of the trunk in the C5 for under five hundred with an inexpensive mono amp if you want to keep the OEM head unit.
