I have to recommend a pro do it. The air bag is in there, too much could go wrong.

becareful if you remove the steering wheel yourself, it does have an airbag that can be set off. being a paramedic and all, an air bag has enough force to break your jaw or neck, let a pro do it, just my .02

I had my dealer do mine when I went with a Vette Essentials wheel. Only got charged one hours labor ($43), so it was worth it to me to have them do the labor.

Just follow the required procedures; remove air bag fuse, make sure to disconnect the yellow air bag connector at the base of the wheel (this shorts the connectors on the bag side together, effectively preventing any air bag deployment), and remove the bag and wheel.
The GM service procedures are very detailed and just follow the warnings and cautions, and there should be no problem.
I have seen hundreds, if not thousands of air bags removed, I myself have removed probably thirty, and never observed an unintended deploy of a bag.
