About a year ago my steering column locked up for no reason at all. The car still started and could actually be driven. I called GM to see what to do and they had me tow it to the dealer. The dealer ended up replacing the steering column lock and I didn't have any issue at all with it for the next year.
Well, about two weeks after I had the car repaired, GM issued the recall for Corvettes for the steering column lock. When I finally received my paperwork for the recall I sent in all the receipts and information I had on the repair that I had done before.
Yesterday I received a letter from GM stating that they would not reimburse me at all for my repairs because the part I had repaired wasn't part of the recall. Is this normal? I'm thinking about calling them and complaining but I want to try to make sure I have everything in order before I do. Any advice?
well if it was an automatic then they should have taken out the CL and you would not have an issue again.
if it is a MN6 then you will need to put in the CLB so that you don't get stuck again.
I am sure that GM's note says that they will only pay for the removal of the lock in A4s or the reprogram of the lock for the MN6 (BS I know).
I would complain up the ladder further though and see what happens. It can only cost you a few dollars in paper and postage and you never know hwat will happen.
Sorry about that. By driven I mean the car ran and I could put it in first and reverse and drive it forward adn backward. Wheel never turned. Basically I backed it up for the flatbed to tow it.

Don't know who you talked to at GM, but try Customer Assistance. Sometimes you get good responses, sometimes they walk the corporate line. I 've had good luck with them.

I have the name, email and phone # of the one that worked with me. Worth a shot IMHO. I told her I'd refer people to her if someone needed help. PM me.
