Default Headlight "plugs"

Does anyone know where to get these? My car didn' have them on when I bought it. The obvious answer would be the Chevy dealership, but I don't want to give them my money.
Thanks

I needed one when I got my car last Spring too...they were only couple dollars at the Chevy dealer and readily in stock.

They aren't that expensive. If you hate your dealer that much, try gmpartsdirect.

My understanding is that the plugs changed sometime during the model years and the older ones are no longer available. If you have the older style plugs, you will need to install the new headlight side bezels and plugs. It may have been sometime in model year '99 when these changed as my neighbor's '99 vert still had the old style installed from the factory. At one time there was also a TSB on the older plugs and the problem with them coming loose. Here's another thread on the topic currently going around:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=989487

Your local dealer should be able to provide you with the correct numbers for the parts that you need. You don't have to buy from them. Good luck with the fix.

Try Gene at the KarShop. Or Bob in Parts at Fichtner Chevy.

The part number for the plug in 97 (first design) is 10297460 the 2nd design changed sometime in early 99 but it seems that inventory kept the old style going for a while, this part number is 10435410 and this is all that is available from a dealer now. You can tell the difference by a slot (labeled as a "Coin slot" which can be used to rotate the plug for installation and removal) and the size of the plug. If your housing is designed to accept the first design plug the new plugs will simply fall out. You then will need new bezel's as well. The RH part is 10435412 and the LH part 10435411. The total cost should be less than $25.00 and the total time to install should be less than 15 minutes.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll just go to the dealership and get them, I didn't realize they were cheap...I guess because I have never seen one before.

Default Yes

There was a recall done. I remember my left one fell out somewhere along the way. I went to pay and get it fixed. They replaced the entire bezels on both for $0. I had mine switched out. It had to do with the plugs falling out randomly. The new ones stay put. The entire inner plastic shell should be switched out, for nothing , by the dealer.

A couple strips of black duct tape works just as well, especially if you need the whole shroud changed. You can only see them at night and its too dark then...

Brent:

Before going to the dealer be aware that your car (it's a 99 per profile) will need the surround also!!!!

It cost about $35, plus the cost of the seals.

Takes about 5 minutes per light to change the surround out (need a torx head screwdriver, dont remember the size).

If you want you can do what I did.
Take the surronds of the headlights and cut the top of a black spray can off into a circle and super glue them in. They look great. the only disadvantage is that you have to take the suronds off to adj. the lights. That is usually a one time deal. Try it its a cheap alternative to buying new surounds to install the factory plugs.
