Default Need some pointers on Z06 purchase.

I have been looking for a Corvette for a little while now. This will be my first. I believe that the Z06 is for me. I love the roofline coupled with the other design elements. I have come across one that seems to be a good deal. It is a 2001, roughly 5000 miles, of course no warranty. It seems to be in great shape. I am having someone I know look at it for me since it is in another state. The firm price is $31K

Questions:

Is this a good price for year '01 with little mileage?
Would I be better to keep looking for a 2002 or newer?
Can I expect to have problems with oil burning?

Any other opinions are welcome.

Thanks In advance.

P.S.
Have also come across a 2001 Convertible with 21K miles for $30?
Same questions.

Pass on the 2001, find a 2002 or later.

From my morning Denver paper:
2004 Z06 2400 mi $39000
I think you can do better.

You might want to shop more aggressively in your own area, Kick the tires. In this price range you want to test drive a few cars before laying down the cash.
Good Luck to both buyer and seller.

Have shopped Denver completely. There is not much here. I have set a limit for myself on spending, $32K is what I am going to spend, no more. I mean I could go higher, but with a limit I won't go crazy, if ya know what I mean.

31 grand for a low mileage great condition 01 Z is a good price i have seen them as low as 28 grand but i wonder how they were driven and how they were taken care of also. Remember a GREAT deal could mean more than your looking for in trouble under the hood or drivetrain. Have someone certified check it out if you cant go to see it.

Does this 01 Z06 have ANY warranty left? any extended warranty?? im not sure if you can still buy a warranty for it. ask on here.

Also the earlier production/built 01 Z06's are the ones with oil consumption problems. You might want to find out its built date and check previous records of service history.

I would buy a low mileage 01 Z and not worry about the oil consumption because its the way its been driven and the way you drive it, if its not been driven hard and beaten on it should be a great car for you. I dont drive my cars hard and if you dont, you shouldnt ever have a problem with oil consumption.

This is just what i have learned but i read alot and know people with the 01 Z's and the oil problems arent as big or widespread as they are stated on these forums.

good luck on your search.

Perhaps with the C6 Z coming out later this year there will be more choices. I have seen more in the Denver area in the recent past, but right now there's not much advertised.

I would say that car is worth the money. If the car checks out OK.

Car checked out. Nice, very nice. Got some title issues. Running like the wind from this. Gonna go for a 2002. Drove one today and I am hooked.

Good luck with your search...your car is out there somewhere waiting for you! Have you tried CARS.com or Autotrader.com? These are great sites to look for cars with the specific features, etc that you desire. Good search engines on both and lots of hits on Z06's right now.

I'd wait, and be picky. I got an 01 Z with no oil consumption problems. Was not one of the early builds. Bought mine for 27K. Had to jump on an out of state purchase. Shop around a bit more.
Hope this helps,
Will

As I posted earlier I picked up an '02. It is immaculate. Like it was rarely driven. Love it.

Default Bought mine of ebay

01 SW Z06 $27,000 22k on clock

I have a little bit of the Oil issue other than that, she is one strong 01 laying down 350 rwhp and 355 Tq. bone stock on my dynojet.

Good luck

Brian
