I have heard that there are MANY different Mag Red shades. Even GM has two different Mag Reds, Magnetic Red I (I believe a 1999 color) and Mag Red II (2000 and up) And within the Mag Red I there are supposedly about 6 different shades of THAT color.

Mag Red is 379E. Which is a 3 stage, my mag red is very similar to the cadilac color. But of course I've added ghost flames which makes color match oh so much fun.
FYI
86u & 379E are one in the same, GM give you two ways to get the paint code.
86U is the 'ordering' option code & 379E is the actual paint code, which I believe has a U in front of it; e.g., U379E, but I could be wrong. BTW...both MagRed I & MagRed II had 86U as the option code.

Exactly........... That 86U is nothing more than the code the dealer is given for a particular year to tell the GM ordering system you want to order Mag Red. Has NOTHING at all to do with the actual paint code that a body shop would need.
It may assist him in tracking down a possible paint code.
