I have heard that there are MANY different Mag Red shades. Even GM has two different Mag Reds, Magnetic Red I (I believe a 1999 color) and Mag Red II (2000 and up) And within the Mag Red I there are supposedly about 6 different shades of THAT color.

Probably the reason for the shift to Mag Red II

You can get the paint code from the Service Parts ID tag on the inside of the glovebox - it's on the lower left corner with a "BC/CC" notation.

As Glenn said, MagRed is tricky, depending on production date... Your dealer service dept. can give you the correct code if you give them the VIN.

Mag Red is 379E. Which is a 3 stage, my mag red is very similar to the cadilac color. But of course I've added ghost flames which makes color match oh so much fun.

if you have any q's email me @ dljones31@msn.com

86U is the 'ordering' option code & 379E is the actual paint code, which I believe has a U in front of it; e.g., U379E, but I could be wrong. BTW...both MagRed I & MagRed II had 86U as the option code.

Exactly........... That 86U is nothing more than the code the dealer is given for a particular year to tell the GM ordering system you want to order Mag Red. Has NOTHING at all to do with the actual paint code that a body shop would need.

It may assist him in tracking down a possible paint code.
