Default Royal Purple: initial impressions

I changed the transmission and differential over to RP this morning and I wanted to share my initial impressions.

1. Doing the work was very easy. especially on a lift. When I was looking up how to do it I saw someone say that a dealership was charging $140 + oil for the diff. alone . This was about the easiest thing I've done on this car, especially with a lift. The only bad part was pumping the oil up into the diff and transmission (the pump I was using leaked a little, so it was a bit messy and a little tedious). The smell wasn't exactly great either, but there is nothing you can do about that.

2. I don't hear any noise or anything different from the diff, so I'm guessing that's okay. It was fine before and the only reason I changed it was that it still had the original stuff in there. The transmission is a different story. It still had the original fluid in there too and it was getting a little hard to shift. I was having to force it into gear sometimes. I could feel a difference as soon as I put it into R to back off the lift. It shifts much smoother and slide right into gear with no effort.

I used RP because I was able to find it here and not have to worry about getting it shipped from the states or anything like that. I can't say that it's better or worse than Mobil 1, AMSOIL or anything else, but the transmission is much smoother now and I'm comfortable it can take the heat.

Total cost, for this was about $100 including 4qts ATF, 2 qts gear lube, 8qts Mobil 1 5w30, an oil filter, and using a lift at the base hobby shop was right at $100.

Now I've just got to resist going WOT for 300 miles

I use Royal Purple on the gears as well but I have heard that in the Tranny you should keep the factory GM Dexron I run the Factory on my level V tranny. I was told by FLP, Rodney and Lengerfelter. I rum Royal Purple on everything except Tranny....................

on the early Borg-Warner F-bodies, I know you can't run synthetic ATF fluid, but plenty of guys have been using synthetic ATF in the corvette MN6/MN12 trannys w/o any trouble. Did they say why, or are you talking about A4s? I should have clarified that I'm talking about an MN6/
