Did a Hypertech tune today with my programmer that I just bought on this site from another member. I was pleased with the results, however after about an hour of really hard driving I noticed that my 2nd to third shifts were not happening under WOT. I looked at the trans temp and it was up to about 225. I decided to drive it home and let it cool down. About a mile from my house I lost 3rd gear completely I noticed the trans temp at 250 WTF!! Are these transmissions that bad? I just had the 2-3 clutchpaks replaced, could that mean anything? I guess all the friction and slippage made it get worse. Took it to the dealership. Its covered under warranty. Oh yes and I did reprogram everything back to stock.

I apologize if I've missed something here, but what I think I read was that you programmed the car which introduced the slippage into the transmission in all probability... then you fried the tranny, and now it's going to be fixed under warrenty. The next time there's a thread about how expensive those warrenty's are ... I guess we'll know part of the reason.
The Hypertech programmer increases line pressure to firm up shifts. It is very possible the programmer caused the problem or just added the last nail to the coffin so to speak. Most people say the best way to improve auto shifting is to install a shift kit. Having said that, I have a shift kit on my 2000 Camaro SS and I am running the Hypertech on my 96 Impala SS, so far both are running fine. The shift kit performs much better but I am not really looking to chirp the tires in my Impala.

I have a Predator and a shift kit. I used both judiciously and I have not had any problems. 2.73:1 gears, stock TC - chips 2nd and 3rd at part throttle, no worries (but then, I have a Procharger )
My highest trans temp. so far is 142 F with the cooler.
I would guess it's the clutch pack change that caused your problem, not the HyperTech.
After the warranty repair, install a trans cooler. They're cheap and excellent insurance for future twisty runs.
I don't believe the programmer did all that. He mentioned that he just had clutch packs replaced. From experience, I can tell you that if the clutch packs were NOT GM's, they will fry almost immediately. For some reason, aftermarket parts on the 4L60E trans simply doesn't work.
I had all of my torque management parameters removed on mine and though I expect it to take a dump prematurely, there has been many people who have done the same and never had a problem. I can't imagine Hypertech changing the parameters enough to ruin the trans. Can you imagine the lawsuits?

Sully, I bought my car end of Sept 2004 - so I have only seen cool/cold weather driving so far Plus you auto x, have a big block, and live in warmer climes I'm in the frozen north - CT
I will probably see much higher temps later this year.
