LS1 Engine Sound - Is This Normal?
I have a 2001 convertible with 10,500 miles. Upon cold startup, the engine has a very minor "diesel engine" sound to it. It quickly quiets down in under 30 seconds. Is this typical in all LS1 engines, all years?
The engine seems perfect otherwise. No oil consumption or other concerns.
I don't know if this is noise from lack of oil in the upper parts of the engine as would be expected with a cold startup. Or is this possibly the piston slap I've heard about.
Does piston slap sound like a diesel engine?

I have had 2 LS1 cars and they both do it.

Kinda sounds like the piston slap issue, but hard to tell for sure without hearing it. It's common on these cars.
