im replacing the rubber bushings on my car with poly ones. so as im cutting the rubber bushings off, the resipricating saw slips and gets me in the wrist next time ill use a vice or clamp to hold the piece im cutting instead of my hand now i have to wait 7to10 days to get the stitches out before i can any more work on the car
I know how that feels. Last summer I had to get 5 stiches on my hand after a wrench slipped while I was lossening the brake caliper, on my beater (01 civic.) I could have got a brake job for the same price as parts + the $50 emergency room copay. Live and learn, I guess. The worst part about my injury was that I removed my leather gloves 5 minutes before I cut my hand.
Only 4?
I got 7 working on a kitchen cabinet - surely a Corvette is worth more than that!
Also, don't go "costing out" things like that - you'll drive yourself crazy and won't have good "war stories" to share with your grandchildren!
4 stitches for the vette, now thats a cool war wound! Glad your OK. I went with Vette Brakes Poly bushings. Very happy with the results. I used a press to get the old bushings out, went very quickly and no stitches. Best TommyN
I learned many years ago, from many years of "holding the light" for my Dad... No job on a car is complete without severe cussing, and blood just seals the deal. Damn I wish that guy was still around to see me now.
yyyoouucchh!
reminds me of my dad, got 13 or so stitches when he banged his head on the hood latch on his C3 working on the radiator.
My mom was trying to get him to wear a bike helmet while working on the car after that, which would do no good for what you did.
Guess it comes with the territory.
Worst I've done was bust my knuckles changing the oil - removing the pan plug (on a car I used to have...but besides changing spark plugs, that's the extent of my car repair experience (SO far!) )
Sorry to hear it. At least your hands still permit you to enjoy the Forum.
You do know there are people that actually do that kind of work for a living? You can pay them to do it and you can sit and watch them work while you file you’re fingernails!
LOL
Just joshing! I’ve pealed the hide off my hands and made several trips to the ER! I can’t tell you the times I’ve had to have a fingernail drilled and even lost 2 fingers and had to have them sewn back on! OUCH! Glad I don’t that any more1
Back in 67 I had a 427 and it had that stupid triangular shaped air cleaner.
Broke a heater hose about two inches out from the firewall so I cut it and took off the clamp and pulled on the remaining piece with vise grips to get it off.
It comes off and hand slides up under air cleaner. Weeeelllllll ten stitches, a severed ligiment and hand in a cast for 6 weeks.
From then on before I work on any car I just shove my hand into the engene well blindly, get a small slice to get it over with, wrap it in mechanics rag and finish the work.
Sorry to hear that! That's not how that was supposed to go at all plus, 7-10 days waiting now........bummer. However, if the snow keeps falling on us up here you'll have plenty of time to get it done
