I received a quote for an extended warranty from fitchner chevrolet on my 02 but its quite expensive for a long term (60 months). I noticed that most wear parts are not covered tires, battery, shocks, brake rotors and pads winshield wiper blades body parts and carpeting etc. Therefore it seems it just covers mechanical breakdown. I received my vehicle history from car guy and the only thing replaced under the original warranty was the battery in october 2004. So my 02 is trouble free; it seems that if any thing was seriousley wrong it would have shown up by now. I could replace a transmission or have it rebuilt for the cost of the warranty so is it really necessary on an 02 trouble free for three years. How likely is it something major like a transmission or engine will go bad if it is taken care of properly in the next four or five years. Driven about 15,000 miles a year with 25,000 miles on the odometer now?
I paid about $800 for 48 month 48000 mile Major Guard last year. That was about my limit. If it was over $1000 I would do without the warranty and take my chances.
I just had some extended warranty work done on my '99 Vette - repaired leaky tranny, replaced faulty wheel speed sensor, replaced faulty oil pressure sending unit, replaced fob romote. This all cost around $3000.00. I have the GMCC warranty (50,000 mile) with no deductible that I purchased from Ken Finchner for about $1600.00. In my particular case, it was money well spent.

Those are normal maintenance items and no service plan will cover them. What it will cover is wear items in the drive train, mechanical and electrical failures, etc. With GMPP the number of items not covered is pretty small. On my 97 I had the right side mirror replaced/painted when the hinge broke, the seat track replaced, 4 wheel bearings replaced, upper and lower front control arms on both sides replaced, etc. You will get similar results from other good plans. Depending on how you use the car it may or may not be worth it to you to buy the service plan. I track my car and just saving the cost of the wheel bearing replacement more than made up for the plan's cost.

You should of bought it, before your vehicle turned 24,000 miles.
It would of cost you half of what was quoted to you. That's why guy's if your going to buy a warranty, buy it as soon as possible.
With GMPP 0 to 24,000 Miles is one price from 24,001 to 36,000 another and from 36,001 to 50,000 another yet.
Anything over 50,001 you might has well forget a GMPP or take a small home equity loan out to purchase the warranty. Gets kind of pricey at that point.
There are no cheap problems with a C5 with seven computer modules and a host of high cost repairs. an alternator can run you 500 dollars, repairing an oil sending unit can cost 400 installed, water pump 500, door control module 500, a seat adjuster 700, front wheel bearing 800 dollars, headlamp moter 400. It goes on and on... no one covers wear items.air conditioning system can easily run over a thousand dollars/
I have the same problem. An '02 and the warranty is up in May. For the cost I don't think or expect to have any major problems. Also I may not be doing any long trips like I've done in the past two years. But then there is always the unexpected. It's a crap shoot for sure.

Personally, I would not pay that much. GMPP prices just went up considerably. Check with Warranty Direct. I just got a warranty on mine for 4 years, 60000 miles and paid $1960 for zero deductible and with emissions covered. All warranties will exclude normal maintenance and wear items like shocks, tires, batteries, belts, hoses, etc.
If you live in or near a big city save the $4000 and join a vette club. They should have some good gear heads in the group. They can steer you in the right direction after your 3 years runs out. They probably will take better care of your car than a dealer.
Purchased my 99 A4 in October with 38000 on the odometer, from a very reputable dealership here in Dallas Tex. $1700 for a 24 month or 24000 mile warranty, which ever comes first with a $50 dollar, thats fifty dollar deduct. for every visit, covers rental car also. Read some of my posts. I have had about $3600 in work done so far and paid a total of $50, thats Fifty bucks thanks to my service writer. Sounds like I own a piece of crap looking at my post. I actually have a beautiful car that I love and want to keep up to par.. Worth every penny that I paid for the warranty and I have more than reaped the reward for the cost..
