Sounds to me like a bad nylon gear (broken teeth).

When the gear in mine went it would make a noise after putting it in the down position but would shut off after a while.

I bought a brass gear and replaced it myself.

Well, on second thought i forgot to ask what year. If its still under warranty GM will take car of it but they will replace it with the same nylon gear and it will probably do it in the future.

The brass gear is the way to go.

Thanks guys for all your replies very helpfull. My car is a 02 Z06. The factory warrenty has expired. I have a extended GM major guard warrenty. I have a Euro code class lights with HID do you think that will void the warrenty? can this gear be replaced without realigning the headlights? Should i play stupid with the add ons. Greg

first of all, the manual **** isnt for adjusment. its to open/close manually. the adjustments are all in screws and bolts, not the ****.

secondly, id repalce with brass gears for 50 or so bucks as a DIY thing, if u get them replaced with gm ones they will just break again.
