What happens is you run a wheel set w/o the sensors? Do you get a errror code?
Do the sensors have a life do to a sealed battery or is there a replaceable battery?
I am happy to buy another set for the second wheel set, but taking the sensors off of the OEM set is also an option.
Sure would appreciate the advice of someone who has been there. Thanks.

1. You will get a DIC error code just as you would if the battery died in the TPS.
2. The sealed battery life is about 5-7 years.
3. Nericreations.com can replace the battery, not a DIY job.
4. There are forum vendors who sell TPS' well below the Chevy dealership price.
5. If you take the TPS' off, note from which wheel they came, e.g. LF, RF, etc. and install them on your new wheels in the same location. This should prevent you from having to reprogram them. Reprogramming is a simple matter and instructions are in the owner's manual.

Neri Creations sensors will not work on his car. Neri only restores sensors for '97-'00 and these sensors will not work with an 02. You can have the sensors turned off so that you don't get the error message on newer model years as well.
Just an additional note. Make sure you replace the o-rings when you swap the sensors to avoid slow leaks later on.
If you want to take them off completely you can have the dealer un-programe them from the system. I think they use the Tech II to do it.
I am thinking of new wheel and tires, non-emts, taking off the stock setup and saving them for trade-in-time. Don't want the expense of removing the old ones from my 99, and am wondering if $300+ expense of new TPS is worth it if I plan use an old fashioned tire gauge on a regular basis? Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I am curious.

As far as I know the 99's can't be "deprogrammed" so you will be stuck with the error message for life if you opt out. You will have to clear it each time you start the car...."Service tire mon sys".
