Default Can I work on a C5?

Ive got a 96' now. Is it more difficult to work on a C5 than a C4??
I dont like taking my vette into the dealerships to have work done.
I would rather do it myself or have my uncle help me. So over all with oil changes, brakes, etc... Is it easier to work on and maintain a 96' over maybe a 99' C5???? Any thoughts????????

Darth,
I never had a C4 so can't make a direct comparison, but...
I am not a formally trained mechanic, but am experienced and mechanically inclined. I bought a service manual and have had success doing the following to my car:
- two engine replacements
- clutch replacement
- front a-arm replacement
- all four wheel bearing assembly replacement
- all four brake lines, calipers, rotors, pads replacement
- radiator replacement
- oil cooler installation
- pcm swap
- drivers seat change out
- alignment (special "tools" needed; camber gauge, laser level, toe plates)

Probably forgot a few things. Service manual is pretty good and the help on the forum is invaluable if I get stuck. At this point, I feel pretty comfortable working on the car myself. Obviously, given the above list and my racing use, warranty claims aren't an issue for me anymore.

I found it easier to work on a C5. The jacking proceedure and oil change proceedure is different. Not difficult, maybe a little more time consuming.

Don't have a C4, but have a C3 along with my C5 ... general maintenance is general maintenance ... the key for anything special is does it require any special tools? Shop and assembly manuals usually point out anything where a special tool might be required. Some of them you'll already have (i.e. oxygen sensor removal socket, or whatever). Experience has taught me to buy those tools BEFORE I tear into the component - it's also filled my garage with a lot of tool toys!

I owned a C4 before my C5 and the C5 is easier to work on than the C4.

Among other things, I installed headers on my C5. I would not even have attempted that on my C4.
