Can I work on a C5?
I dont like taking my vette into the dealerships to have work done.
I would rather do it myself or have my uncle help me. So over all with oil changes, brakes, etc... Is it easier to work on and maintain a 96' over maybe a 99' C5???? Any thoughts????????
I never had a C4 so can't make a direct comparison, but...
I am not a formally trained mechanic, but am experienced and mechanically inclined. I bought a service manual and have had success doing the following to my car:
- two engine replacements
- clutch replacement
- front a-arm replacement
- all four wheel bearing assembly replacement
- all four brake lines, calipers, rotors, pads replacement
- radiator replacement
- oil cooler installation
- pcm swap
- drivers seat change out
- alignment (special "tools" needed; camber gauge, laser level, toe plates)
Probably forgot a few things. Service manual is pretty good and the help on the forum is invaluable if I get stuck. At this point, I feel pretty comfortable working on the car myself. Obviously, given the above list and my racing use, warranty claims aren't an issue for me anymore.
