IMO, Optima batteries are an excellent choice. However, I often see them referred to here on the Forum as a gel cell battery. Actually according to the Optima website, the Red Top and Yellow Top are Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) batteries and there is a diffference:
Look closer at the beginning of the thread. This thread was started by Sandy99Pewter, but yet that post ends up being at 7:30, and the first reply to it is the one at 7:29.
What is the difference between the Optima red and yellow top, and is one better than the other. Thanks, John.
The yellow top is what's known as a "deep cycle" battery. They're generally used in things like boats and RV's where they're intended to be discharged and then recharged. Personally, I don't think they're a good idea for single battery cars although some here believe they're good for high-capacity users.
Those of you that have replaced your battery in your C6 with a redtop what model # did you use?
They don't have a selection for the 05 on their site.
And was it a direct replacement?
Thanks,
John
I think it's a size 75 and if I've got the size remembered correctly, yes, it's a direct replacement (although you have to use a different battery hold-down which is supplied with the battery).

Quote from the Optima website:
"OPTIMA Yellow Top batteries, featuring SPIRALCELL Technology, are designed for all of your deep cycle needs. It's perfect for people who are serious about sound. OPTIMA's power is cleaner with higher voltage output than conventional batteries. You can play your system louder and longer. And they have a greater cycle life so they can be drained and recharged more often."
I have a 1 Farad Cap with my sub amp and I love the Yellow Top - no more dimming lights when the 12inch Rockford Fosgate Stage2 hits at 25Hzs.
All that, plus like all Optima batteries, it can sit unused for a year and not discharge.
Every time this question gets asked, you get the same answer: Optima Red Top. There is another thread on C5 General right now that lists the costs people have paid.
I got the Nascar Excide AMG type sold at Sam's Club for $95. That's an extra $20 or so for other mods or whatever, compared to the RedTop. They really are essentially the same battery. You just pay for the "RedTop Optima" name. Dont let anyone tell you differently and say "RedTop is a better battery" just because they bought one. Ask them to prove it.
Only had it a few weeks, but zero problems. Which is the way it should be. I've read in several post where the RedTops went dead after a few days of not starting the car or even went bad all together. In my opinion, for that kind of money, you should not read one post about the battery going bad.
Also, you will have to re-sycronize your keyfob to you car after you replace your battery.
Good Luck on your choice.
Chris
How did the first reply to this thread end up having a time before the original post?
They adjusted the forum clock. When you move the clock back, later posts (after the time change) will take on the new forum time, which if earlier, will put the posts in above the posts made before the time rollback.
If the forum clock happened to run slow, and they bumped it forward, there would be no noticible effects...it's only when time needs to be set back that these weird post arrangements occur.
