It seems the only things I've done in the engine would have been easier to do if I could get to the intake w/o needing a chiropractor when I get done. I don't know of any way to get it out of the way other than taking it off and I'm not about to tackle that one.

Short of taking the hood off, no way that I know to make it open wider. I don't think that unhooking the shocks will allow the hood to open that much further, but maybe someone that has done it can confirm that.
